The night started with promise. The hunters got their chance, took their shot, and put one Hog on the ground. But after that, the fields went quiet. They covered ground, checked all the usual hotspots, and worked hard to track down more Pigs, but sometimes, the Wild Hogs just don’t want to cooperate. That’s the nature of Wild Hog Hunting - every night brings new conditions, and the challenge is what makes the reward even better.

Guiding Thermal Hog Hunts isn’t always easy. Some nights, everything lines up perfectly - Pigs are out in the open, stalks go smoothly, and Hunters rack up a Pile of Hogs with minimal effort. Other nights… well, they test your patience.

That’s exactly the kind of night Guide Clayton had on a recent Hog Hunt with three determined Hog Hunters. The Wild Pigs were out, but they weren’t exactly cooperating.

“Well well well, I failed four different stalks on pigs. Every time, they just walked back into the woods. It is the most frustrating thing to happen on a field stalk. I wanted to shave my eyebrows off and draw them back on to make me look angry all the time.”

If you’ve ever tried to creep up on a group of pigs in an open field, you know the feeling. One second, they’re feeding in the open, completely unaware. The next, they vanish into the treeline like ghosts.

But Clayton and his hunters weren’t about to give up. They kept pushing through the night, working field after field, waiting for their moment. Finally, at around 5 a.m., they spotted a Sounder. This time, there was no slipping away.

After 60+ rounds fired, the dust settled, and they had their hog.

Sometimes, Mother Nature throws one last curveball just to keep things interesting. As Clayton left the field, the sky opened up, hammering down rain so hard that he had to crawl home at 40 mph on Highway 19.

“I couldn’t see anything, but at least the hunting van is clean now.”

At the end of the day, no Wild Hog Hunt is ever the same, and that’s what makes it so damn fun. Whether it’s perfect stalks or a night full of frustration, every Hunting Trip is a story waiting to be told. A Four-Night Thermal Hog Hunt Recap

Guided by Clayton, three Seasoned Hog Hunters joined Pig Problem for a 4-Night Thermal Hog Hunt in South Georgia. These guys were no strangers to Night Hunting - they had been Hog Hunting with another Hunting Outfitter for years, but with their usual guide retiring, they decided to give Pig Problem a shot. They were used to putting down double-digit numbers of Hogs each night, which is a rare feat, not because of a lack of Pigs, but because most Hunters don’t capitalize on the opportunities when a field is full of them.

Night 1:

A Sounder and a Start

The Hog Hunt kicked off with high expectations. The group encountered a Sounder of Hogs early on, taking shots and managing to drop one Wild Pig. It wasn’t the massive numbers they were used to, but it was a start. The guys were getting a feel for the setup, Clayton’s guiding style, and the way Pig Problem Hunts.

Night 2:

A Mechanical Mishap and Midnight Repairs

Things got interesting on the second night, and not just because of the Wild Hog Hunting. Earlier that day, the Hunting Van had a tire rotation, but whoever worked on it forgot to tighten the lug nuts properly. By 2:30 AM, Clayton realized the van was wobbling badly, making it unsafe to drive. Luckily, Megan, our go-to assistant/manager/problem-solver, came to the rescue. She rolled in with a jack and all the tools needed to tighten everything up, saving Clayton from a roadside disaster.

After the unexpected pit stop, the guys got back to Thermal Hog Hunting around 3:30 AM and managed to take down two more Piggies before sunrise.

Night 3:

Precision Stalks Pay Off

The third night was all about stealth and accuracy. They went on two separate stalks, each time finding a Single Hog, and each time dropping it clean. Some nights aren’t about chasing massive sounders it’s about making every shot count. Two pigs down, zero wasted opportunities.

Night 4:

The Fog Takes Over

The final night was a test of patience, but not because of the pigs. Thick fog rolled in, making Thermal Equipment nearly useless. Clayton said he couldn’t see more than 50 yards in front of him - even the Hog Hunting Van, parked just 100 yards away, disappeared in the haze. At 1:30 AM, with visibility still next to nothing, they called it a night.

Despite a slow first night and a fogged-out final night, the hunters got 5 Wild Hogs Down in three nights, dealt with a wild van situation, and got a full taste of what Hunting with Pig Problem is all about. It’s never just about numbers - it’s about adapting, making the most of every opportunity, and having a damn good time doing it.

This past weekend, Pig Problem Guide Hank took a group of Hunters on a 2 Night Hog Hunt that turned into an Unforgettable Hunting Adventure. What began as a straightforward Hunting Trip quickly shifted gears when a rare snowstorm swept through South Georgia, creating challenges, surprises, and memorable moments. Here’s a recap of their thrilling experience from Hank’s perspective, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of hunting.

Night 1:

A Stellar Start

The excitement was palpable as the group set out for their first Night of Hunting. Hank led the way, infusing the air with anticipation as they ventured into the field. It didn’t take long for their hard work to pay off—almost immediately, they spotted a sizeable Wild Boar. One of the Hog Hunters steadied their aim, and with a confident squeeze of the trigger, the Trophy Boar dropped like dead weight. The first shot was a resounding success, earning two enthusiastic thumbs up from the group.

As the night wore on, Hank and his team searched diligently for more Pigs, but the wildlife was unusually sparse. The only other creatures they encountered were a few Deer, quietly making their rounds under the moonlight. Despite the slower pace, the atmosphere stayed electrified with laughter and banter as they shared stories and strategies. As they wrapped up the night, excitement glimmered in their eyes for the next round of the Hog Hunt.

On the eve of their second night, Hank and the Hunters were poised for another round of action when they received unexpected news. All Wild Hog Hunts were canceled do to a south ga mini blizzard. A snowstorm, the likes of which South Georgia hadn’t seen since 2009, blanketed the landscape with five to seven inches of snow. The group collectively decided to stay an extra night, allowing everyone to wait out the storm.

Night 3:

A Winter Wonderland Hunt

When the storm finally subsided, the Hog Hunters were rejuvenated and ready to tackle the unique conditions of their third night of Thermal Hunting. As they stepped into the winter wonderland, Hank knew they had an opportunity for a memorable experience. Although the snow was breathtaking, he reminded his team that Wild Hog Hunting in such conditions posed unique challenges—staying concealed against the bright white backdrop would require creativity and patience.

Moving cautiously along the tree lines to minimize noise, the Wild Hog Hunters quickly adapted their strategy. Their diligence paid off as they successfully dropped two Piggies in the snowy fields, proving that perseverance goes hand-in-hand with success. Laughter and cheers filled the air, and the group celebrated their triumphs amongst the shimmering snow.

However, approaching more Wild Pigs in the open fields presented difficulties; Hank noted how the Pigs could spot them from a distance, making stealth a significant challenge. Even with good wind direction, the hunters’ white-clad figures were noticeable against the landscape. Yet, they took the challenges in stride, finding joy in the experience and camaraderie.

Night Two: Explosions and Adventure

Night two brought its own unique brand of excitement as Guide Clayton took the Predator Hunters on a thrilling tour of the South Georgia Wilderness. While on the Hunt for Hogs, they stumbled upon a group of about 8 Wild Pigs, with only one being taken down. However, the real showstoppers were the Rabbits. Guide Clayton's email revealed a different kind of "game," with explosions that left the hunters in awe.

The evening was filled with laughter and excitement as the hunters took turns Thermal Hunting Rabbits, creating an Unforgettable Hunting Experience. Ed even let Guide Clayton take a shot with his 10mm, showcasing its impressive firepower. Amidst the chaos, Guide Clayton also managed Hunting Raccoon taking him out, solidifying his reputation as a force to be reckoned with.

As the night drew to a close, Guide Clayton settled in back at his house with a well-deserved drink—specifically a "Psychedelic Rabbit" beer. Guide Clay txted Hank and raised a poignant question: “Is it God’s plan to not find any Pigs?” Hank, ever the optimist, replied that perhaps God was teaching them patience. Just as the night seemed to drag on, at 3:30 AM, Hank spotted a Lone Pig less than 200 yards from the van on the treeline. After a stealthy approach, they successfully took down the Hog with ease. The second night surged with energy and action for Guide Peanut Protector Clayton and his team. “The only time I saw pigs was at 4 AM,” he recalled. However, patience proved to be the game-changer. Their luck shifted when they encountered a Sounder of Pigs, leading to an exhilarating Hog Hunt where they brought down 5 Wild Hogs! Hank's team also experienced an Adrenaline-Filled Night of Hunting. He remarked about feeling déjà vu as he spotted Wild Pigs sneaking around in the moonlight. After strategizing their approach, they managed to take down 5 Pigs, with three on the first round. Dragging the Wild Hogs back to the road for a photo op, Hank’s Thermal suddenly revealed six more Wild Hogs emerging from the treeline! With renewed enthusiasm, they geared up once again and successfully bagged two more Pigs, concluding the night with a total of five for the evening. When they pulled into the last field of the night, the scene was nothing short of spectacular—Wild Pigs were everywhere. It was a grand finale that did not disappoint! Last night was an Unforgettable Hunting Experience in Americus, GA, as our team at Guide Capt. Max led a thrilling Wild Hog Hunt under the starry sky. With the echoes of nature surrounding them, they embarked on a mission, tracking a small group of pigs that had been causing quite a stir in the area.

The adrenaline was palpable as they got closer to our quarry. However, it seemed the Wild Hogs were just as aware of them as they were! As they got a little too close for comfort, the Pigs took notice, but with patience and skill, they were able to secure a Successful Hunt. After a tense yet exhilarating stalk, they brought down one impressive Hog.

But that wasn't all! In addition to their primary target, they also managed to take down a beaver and an armadillo during the night expedition. Each of these animals contributes to the unique ecosystem and makes for a diverse adventure out in the wild.

What made this trip especially special was that it was William's birthday — and his very first Hunting experience! We are absolutely thrilled to have guided William on this memorable adventure. Seeing the joy and excitement on his face as he participated in his First Hunt reminded us of why we love introducing the next generation to The Great Outdoors.
